Juicing is one of my favorite mom hacks. Not only do I love making my own concoctions, but my kids will also willingly drink just about any of the brightly colored, naturally-sweetened mixes.
Why juice? There is some evidence that suggests that juicing fruits & veggies allows for the nutrients to absorb more quickly and efficiently into your cells. Juicing is definitely not a replacement for eating whole foods, but it sure is a yummy way to get some more nutrients into yourself and your kiddos.
We own an Omega juicer and we love it. Find the model that works for you here!
Here are a few of my favorite tried-and-true “recipes.” Try them out and tweak them to your liking!
The Kitchen Sink: what do I need to use up that I already have? Yeah, it may not look pretty but it certainly has the advantage of not wasting those organic fruits and veggies. Throw everything in there - if you have apples or oranges as the base, it’s likely to still taste pretty fantastic.
Faux-OJ: My kids love carrots and apples. It looks a lot like orange juice and it’s super sweet. Add a little knob of ginger if you like the warmth and want to reap more immune-boosting benefits.
Basic Green Juice: celery, cucumber, green apple, and lemon. Feel free to add kale or spinach for added benefit! Mess with the amount of celery and cucumber until you get a ratio that your kiddos like. Then, slowly add more over the span of a few weeks.
Pink Lemonade: Juice more beets! You can use straight beets, beets with green apple, or beets with lemon for “pink lemonade.”
Uplevel your juices: Add a scoop of Glyconutrients to your juice for A-MAZ-ING plant power. My favorite source is Ambrotose Life powder by Mannatech. Read more about this supplement here.
If you don’t feel like making your own, I do have a couple of favorite juice spots near-ish to this area. My favorite is The Daily Dose juice bar in Slinger. This is definitely a place that feels more like a coffee shop than a juice bar - bring some work along and settle in for a few hours. They also have plenty of kid-friendly menu items!
My second favorite is The Green Kitchen in the Milwaukee Public Market. It’s always busy - but definitely worth the wait if you find yourself in the area.
Have you ever tried Nutridyn’s Fruits & Greens powder? It’s like juicing without the prep work! View a list of flavors here and pick up a sample next time you’re in the office!
