My Chiropractic Story
My Chiropractic Story
Why I do what I do.
‘For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.
-Jeremiah 29:11
Hope.
I can not think of a better way to start my story.
I guess my chiropractic journey actually started when I was at UW-La Crosse when I first started seeing a chiropractor for no reason in particular. I was mostly just curious. I soon decided I wanted to BE a chiropractor. But this is another story.
I was under chiropractic care for years before it actually impacted me in life changing ways.
When I was pregnant with my first child, Amelie, I trusted my body and I expected a baby to just come out. Boy was I wrong. After a long series of interventions and years of not taking care of my body, I had an emergency C-section. It was traumatic. It was painful. And it stole my first moments of motherhood.
It was hours before I held my baby. And when I did, I sobbed because I was certain that she would be my only child. I was certain there was no way I was going through THAT again.
What I didn't have in this moment was hope. I didn't have hope for a different experience or outcome.
Fast-forward to our family living in Davenport, IA while I am just finishing my first year of Chiropractic school.
I want a baby. And I want a baby BAD! You might know this feeling. My heart and soul ached to expand our family.
But I couldn't do it again. How could I live that, again?
Knowing I wanted another child, (or two, or three), I started to ask around, read, and learn. By God's grace I found people, books, and stories that gave me hope of something different. The common denominator? CHIROPRACTIC!
When we decided to try to conceive and I had difficulty - my chiropractor helped me.
When I struggled to control my blood sugar with gestational diabetes - my chiropractor helped me.
When I worried about building a care team to support a VBAC - a chiropractor helped me.
When I had to sit thorough 18 hours of written exams over 2 days while 8 months pregnant - my chiropractor helped me.
When I worried if I could birth this baby, now 1 week past my due date - I had a group of supportive chiropractors, chiropractic students to help me. (Along with my husband and an amazing birth doula, of course.)
And my second child, all 10 pounds of him, was born medication free - It was because chiropractic helped me!
I KNOW that my excellent chiropractic care and support from preconception to postpartum gave me the birth I needed to heal.
And now I have that hope. This hope drives me to provide excellent care and support to women and their families who need it.
